Two charged after Port Moody car windows smashed, items stolen

Are you missing your ID, cash, watches, clothing, sunglasses and garage door openers after a Port Moody crime spree on Thursday, Nov. 28? Police may have your items.

If you live on Heritage Mountain in Port Moody and had items stolen from your vehicle last week, police may have them.

The department is now returning identification, cash, watches, clothing, sunglasses and garage door openers to their owners after the possessions were stolen from vehicles in the early hours on Thursday, Nov. 28.

Around 5 a.m., officers got a tip from a resident about two men trying to break into parked vehicles in the Heritage Mountain neighbourhood — specifically, around Hawthorn and Sycamore drives.

When they arrived, police found vehicles with smashed windows and two suspects, who were immediately arrested.

Charged with various property offences, including mischief and theft under $5,000, and breaching probation orders, are:

  • Cory Donald Williams, 35, of no fixed address
  • Mark Trevor Ealey, 36, of Vancouver

Both men remain in custody; Williams will be before a Port Coquitlam Provincial Court judge on Tuesday, Dec. 3, while Ealey will appear at Vancouver Provincial Court on Friday, Dec. 13.

“Thanks to an observant resident, we were able to respond quickly and arrest both suspects,” said Const. Sam Zacharias in a news release.

“Incidents like these highlight the importance of removing any valuables from your vehicle when parked.”

Zacharias said investigators are not linking the crime spree to the residential break-ins in the neighbourhood late last month.

Anyone with information on the thefts, or who may have witnessed the incident, is asked to call the department at 604-461-3456.
