SHARE drive

LFT Group Brands (2170-580 Nicola Ave., Port Coquitlam) hosts its second annual Community Giving fundraiser for SHARE Family and Community Services, a social services agency in the Tri-Cities. Last year, the company raised nearly $1,000 as well as 190 pounds of non-perishable food for the organization through public outreach, plus a raffle and silent auction at a Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce event. Cash and food contributions — especially rice, lentils, canned tuna, chunky tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, beans in tomato sauce, cooking oil and pasta — can be dropped off at the business from noon to 5 p.m. today; donors can also receive special promotions from the company.

SHARE toy stop

SHARE Family and Community Services will open its toy kiosk for donors to drop off toys for the charity’s holiday drive. The kiosk is located at Coquitlam Centre mall (2929 Barnet Hwy.) on level 2 by Walmart. New, unwrapped presents for tweens and teens are sought. The kiosk is open until Dec. 24.

Tuesday, Dec. 3

New housing rules

Learn about the new provincial housing legislation and how it will affect your property, at a virtual information session hosted by the City of Coquitlam. The online session is from 6 to 8 p.m. and will focus on the city’s approach to Transit-Oriented Areas, neighbouring shoulder areas and key corridors in southwestern Coquitlam, as well as an overview of the Small-Scale Multi-Unit Housing. Rudolph run

Slip on your runners for the inaugural Rudolph 5-km Run in support of the SHARE food bank. The timed fun run starts at 11 a.m. from the Mundy Park field house on Hillcrest Street in Coquitlam. Light parade

Port Coquitlam will have its first Parade of Lights in the Tri-Cities to celebrate the holiday season. The procession of the city’s illuminated fleet starts at 5 p.m. from the Port Coquitlam Community Centre (2150 Wilson Ave.) and moves along Kelly Avenue to Shaughnessy Street, east on McAllister Avenue and Mary Hill Road before returning to Kelly Avenue. A public skate, activities and treats will be available afterwards at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre. Some downtown roads will be closed for the parade, from 4:45 to 7 p.m. Park for free at the community hub, Gates Park and Legion branch or along Kingsway Avenue and Mary Hill Road.

Prairie Christmas

Vancouver harpist Janelle Nadeau returns to the Evergreen Cultural Centre in Coquitlam (1205 Pinetree Way) for A Prairie Christmas at 7:30 p.m. The solo show includes original, Celtic and contemporary tunes for the holidays. Nadeau, who has performed with Diana Krall, Kanye West and other celebrity musicians, is the acting principal harpist with the Vancouver Opera Orchestra and performs with the Turning Point Ensemble in Vancouver.
