Take a free painting class with the Port Coquitlam Arts Council

Melissa Burgher and other professional artists from Port Coquitlam will lead the sessions “for anyone who has ever wanted to paint but couldn’t take the financial leap.”

If you ever wanted to pick up a paint brush but can’t afford a class, a Port Coquitlam group has a solution.

This summer — on the first and third Tuesday of July, August and September — the PoCo Arts Council will run free drop-in sessions at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre (2150 Wilson Ave.) for emerging creators 16 and older.

Spokesperson Melissa Burgher told the Tri-City News that she and other professional artists will lead the sessions “for anyone who has ever wanted to paint but couldn’t take the financial leap … or can’t afford the supplies.”

The arts council also won a grant from the Port Coquitlam Community Foundation to organize the free workshops.

Supplies will be provided by Opus while the space is being donated by the City of Port Coquitlam.

Participants are asked to subscribe to the PoCo Arts Council newsletter to get updates and class outlines.

The classes are from 6 to 9 p.m. in the JB Young Room at PCCC. For more about the PoCo Arts Council, visit the website.
