Port Coquitlam residents enjoy one of the best balances between work and life in Canada.

According to a recent study by online real estate marketplace, Point2, the city ranks second for work-life balance in B.C., and 20th among 100 major cities across the country.

The study analyzed data from 30 areas like perceived health, walkability scores, commute times, working hours, after-tax income, the cost of rent and even the incidence of high blood pressure. The information was gathered from Statistics Canada, the Canadian Real Estate Association and local real estate boards.

“A city’s heartbeat lies in its ability to make everyday life feel like a win-win,” said a news release from Point2. “Some places make it easy to manage work and play, while others are synonymous with burnout.”

Port Coquitlam’s overall live-work score of 60.91 out of a possible 100 ranked it behind only the District of North Vancouver in the province, which had a score of 65.98.

Coquitlam’s work-life score of 55.48 is ninth best in B.C., 41st in Canada.

Port Moody wasn’t included in the study.

The top-ranked city in the country is Lévis, Qué., with an overall score of 69.61.

While the city south of Québec City ranked lower than Port Coquitlam in the health and well-being component of the rating, it had a superior ranking in the work intensity component that factors in measurements like working hours, unemployment rate and the percentage of people holding multiple jobs. It also finished higher in its livability component that considers median after-tax income, cost of living, crime severity and even air quality.

Of the top 20 cities ranked across the country, 12 were in Québec.

“Big cities in La Belle Province know to strike that elusive equilibrium,” said the study.
