A driver who allegedly hit parked vehicles last night, July 11, and drove onto a sidewalk was arrested a short time later near Coquitlam Centre mall.

Now, police are calling for witnesses, as well as dash-camera footage, of the reckless white Ford Escape (see above photo).

This afternoon, July 12, Cpl. Alexa Hodgins told the Tri-City News that the detachment fielded several calls about an SUV colliding with parked vehicles at Lougheed Highway and Westwood Street in Coquitlam around 6 p.m.

The driver then went west along Lougheed and drove onto the sidewalk at Pinetree Way, witnesses told police.

Mounties stopped the male adult driver as he was heading west on Atlantic Avenue near Johnson Street, south of the mall precinct.

He was arrested for dangerous driving and has since been released.

Hodgins said three officers were hurt during the arrest and were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

There were no passengers in the vehicle.

“This was a highly dynamic and fluid situation that required a significant police presence to the Coquitlam Centre parking lot near Johnson Street at Atlantic Avenue in Coquitlam,” Hodgins stated in a news release, issued July 12.

“We understand public’s concern to this unfolding incident. Due to the time of day, this was a highly populated area and we are fortunate that no injuries were reported from the community.”
