RCMP are looking to retrace the whereabouts of a Port Coquitlam hit-and-run suspect, now facing criminal charges, after a young girl was struck on June 23, 2024.

A driver who allegedly struck a seven-year-old girl in a Port Coquitlam laneway last month — and left the scene — is facing criminal charges.

Now, Mounties are calling on the public to help investigators piece together the accused driver’s timeline before and after the incident.

Coquitlam RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Alexa Hodgins told the Tri-City News today, July 3, that the hit and run happened on June 23, 2024, at 3:46 p.m.

The child, who was in the alleyway north of Coquitlam Avenue near Wellington Street, was rushed to hospital with non-life threatening injuries after police say she was struck by the driver of a 2016 grey Jeep Cherokee, which fled the scene.

The driver was located near Pinetree Way and Guildford Way in Coquitlam — close to the RCMP detachment — at 4:40 p.m.

Hodgins thanked the witnesses who came forward to help the injured child and assisted emergency personnel.

Today, investigators released a video of the vehicle and suspect before the collision, hoping the footage will jog residents’ and commuters’ memory and provide more details about what happened.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or who has dash cam video of the Jeep between 3:45 and 4:45 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, 2024 is asked to contact the Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550 and quote file number 2024-16039.
