Property taxes

If you own a home in the Tri-Cities, property tax bills are due today or a five per cent penalty will be applied to outstanding amounts. After Sept. 16, another five per cent will be added to unpaid sums, including unclaimed homeowners grants.

Kick for a Cure

Support the Michael Cuccione Foundation, a charity funding childhood cancer research at BC Children’s Hospital, at its annual Kick for a Cure at the Percy Perry Stadium at Coquitlam's Town Centre Park (1299 Pinetree Way). The fundraiser is from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and includes soccer games and clinics on the fields, as well as a kids zone, food and a giant TV to watch Euro 2024. The event is in partnership with the Coquitlam Metro-Ford Soccer Club and Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

Repair Café

Keep your broken or ripped items out of the landfill and have them fixed — for free — by Port Coquitlam volunteers. The Repair Café runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the public works yard (1737 Broadway St.).

Families can tour the Michael Wright Art Gallery at Port Coquitlam’s Leigh Square (next to city hall) and make an art piece based on the current shows. Food fest

Grab some food from one of the 24 vendors on site at the Worldwide Food Festival, a fundraiser for the Low Entropy Foundation. The feast is from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Coquitlam's Town Centre Park (1299 Pinetree Way) and includes multicultural performances and market vendors, as well as a kids zone. Vintage fashion

Ride for Terry Fox

Hop on your bike for the inaugural Terry Fox Ride of Hope in aid of the Terry Fox Foundation, a nonprofit that raises money for cancer research. The 24-km loop along the Traboulay PoCo Trail starts at 10 a.m. from the Hyde Creek Recreation Centre (1379 Laurier Ave.). The aim is to collect $5,000 for the foundation.

Persian tunes

Learn about music and musical instruments from Iran at PoMoArts’ inaugural Summer Concert, held at 2 p.m. at the arts hub (2425 St. Johns St.). The Gomaan Trio, a group formed to experiment with the content and delivery of classical Persian music, will be at the facility to educate and perform. A meet and greet is from 3:40 to 4 p.m. Tickets for the Vancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra (VICO) production include a glass of wine and treats from Pasta Polo. Fred Soofi, a Tri-City entrepreneur who is on the VICO board of directors, is sponsoring the event; Peller Estates is supplying the wine.

Repair Café

Volunteers are at the Poirier branch of the Coquitlam Public Library (575 Poirier St.) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to help fix broken household items brought in by residents for repair. It is the fourth time Coquitlam has hosted a Repair Café, which is designed to keep items like clothing, furniture, electrical appliances, bikes and toys out of the landfill. The 35th annual Caribbean Days Festival returns to Coquitlam's Town Centre Park (1299 Pinetree Way) for its weekend celebration. Organized by the Trinidad and Tobago Cultural Society of BC, the event runs today from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. featuring food, vendors and performances. The Parade in the Park is at 11 a.m. There is no charge for admission. Caribbean Days

The 35th annual Caribbean Days Festival returns to Coquitlam's Town Centre Park (1299 Pinetree Way) for its weekend celebration. Organized by the Trinidad and Tobago Cultural Society of BC, the event runs today from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. featuring food, vendors and performances. There is no charge for admission. Due to high attendance, avoid travelling by car and take SkyTrain to the Lafarge Lake–Douglas station and walk 10 minutes to the festival site.
