Friday, April 18

Carnival fun

West Coast Amusements is back at the western parking lot of Coquitlam Centre (2929 Barney Hwy.) with rides, games and food until April 26. Wristbands for rides are $50 while single tickets are $1.50 (each ride takes three to six coupons). Here are the times:

Federal election

Voters can head to the polls early this Easter long weekend to cast their vote in advance of the 2025 general election. Take your white voter information card that you received in the mail — and the required ID — to make your mark at a polling station between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. on April 18 to 21, 2025. If you can’t make it out in person, the deadline is Tuesday, April 22 to apply to vote by mail using the special ballot process. The 45th federal election will take place on Monday, April 28, 2025, after Prime Minister Mark Carney called a snap election following Justin Trudeau’s resignation. Do you know what riding you live in? Teen bowl, tunes

Tri-City teens can bowl for a couple of hours and hear live music from youth bands at the PoCo Bowl (2263 McAllister Ave., Port Coquitlam. At 5:30 p.m., Whisper of Salvation performs with Peanut Patrol; they return for another set at 8 p.m. Tickets at $25 include two slices of pizza, a drink and bowling gear.

Legion dance

Dance the night away at the Coquitlam branch of the Royal Canadian Legion (1025 Ridgeway Ave., Coquitlam) with the band Vinyl. The music starts at 7 p.m.

Saturday, April 19

Spring regatta

Cheer on the competitors in an annual dragon boat race at Rocky Point Park (2800-block of Murray Street, Port Moody). Admission is free and food trucks and a beverage garden — courtesy of Yellow Dog Brewing — will be open. The Inlet Regatta is the first dragon boat event of the season in Canada. The opening ceremony is at 8 a.m. and races start at 8:30 a.m. The event runs until 5 p.m.

Egg hunt

Get your baskets out for the Wonderland Arts Society’s Easter egg hunt, on from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. by the Scout Hall at Blue Mountain Park (1040 Winslow Ave., Coquitlam). There will be family-friendly games and activities plus a visit from the Easter bunny.

Easter arts

Families can take their kids to Coquitlam Centre (2929 Barnet Hwy.) between noon and 4 p.m. for Bunnies and Blooms. The event in Centre Court will include arts and crafts, an Easter-themed photo opportunity, an Easter QR code hunt with goodies from Purdy’s Chocolatier and a chance to win a filled Easter basket. Parent or guardian supervision is required.

Baseball season

Walk to Mundy Park to catch a double header between the Coquitlam Junior Reds and the Okanagan Junior Athletics baseball teams at 2 and 4:30 p.m. The field is located north of Spani Pool (now called the Mundy Park Pool).

Salsa Night

Learn how to move to Latin music with Alberto Gonzalez and Teresa Szefler at Site B Brewing and Community (3012 Murray St., Port Moody). Doors open at 8 p.m. for a beginners’ class including Salsa, bachata, merengue, cha-cha-cha and cumbia before the dance floor heats up from 9 p.m. to midnight. Admission is $15 at the door. The event is licensed and entry is for ages 19 and up. No partner or experience is needed.

Baseball season

Illuminate city hall

Walk over to Port Coquitlam City Hall (2580 Shaughnessy St.) tonight to see the building bathed in blue, pink and yellow light for Easter Sunday.
