Port Moody's Krista Guloien is one of a handful of Simon Fraser University alumni who will be honoured in the new year.

The Olympic medalist in women's rowing will be recognized with the 2013 Outstanding Alumni Award for her accomplishments and contributions to society that epitomize SFU's motto: Engaging the world.

Guloien, who studied criminology at SFU, earned a silver medal in women's rowing at the 2012 Olympics in London.

"Known for her resiliency, hard work and leadership, Krista stands out as a role model for youth, volunteering countless hours to educate, coach and mentor young athletes," according to a press release from SFU. "Her achievements at the national level, World Cup regattas, world championships and the Olympic Games rank her among the top female rowers in the history of Canadian rowing."

Business leader Lance Uggla, correctional investigator Howard Sapers and Canadian ambassador Tim Martin will also be recognized at the Feb. 26 event.
