Port Moody is accepting nominations for the city's youth sports award.

Port Moody is looking for a young athlete or individual involved with sport to honour with the city’s first youth sports award.

Nominations must be submitted online or on a paper form that can be picked up at city hall (100 Newport Dr.) by April 30, 2025.

According to a news release, the biennial award recognizes someone between the ages of 12 and 19 “who has furthered the growth, reputation, and/or character of sport” through participation, administration, coaching, and/or officiating.

“The youth sports award provides us with a wonderful opportunity to recognize young people who are following their passion for sport and making meaningful contributions to community life,” said Port Moody Mayor Meghan Lahti in the release.

Nominees must fit one of the following categories:

  • significant personal achievement
  • sportsmanship
  • historical contribution
  • leadership
  • unique contribution to sport

Each nomination must include two references as well as items that demonstrate the nominee’s role in sport, such as photos, media clips, medals, jerseys or trophies. If the nominator is under the age of 19, they must also include a consent form signed by a parent or guardian.

Nominations will be reviewed by members of the city’s youth focus committee with their recommendation forwarded by council for its final decision that will be announced in June or July. The winners’ names are added to a plaque and any memorabilia will be displayed at the recreation complex for at least a year.
