David Charney, of the Coquitlam Jr. Adanacs, was the first at-large selection of the Sr. Adanacs in the recent Western Lacrosse Association draft.

A pair of homegrown defenders whose professional rights now belong to West Coast rivals lead the contingent of new players selected by the Coquitlam Adanacs in the 2025 Western Lacrosse Association draft.

Remo Schenato and Robbie Turpin were both territorially protected picks by the Adanacs prior to the commencement of at-large selections in the draft, that occurred Jan. 28 at the Langley Events Centre.

Schenato, who was selected sixth overall by the Vancouver Warriors in the 2024 National Lacrosse League entry draft, is a graduate of Dr. Charles Best Secondary School and he was a part of the Jr. Adanacs team that won the Minto Cup national junior championship last August.

Schenato made his pro debut with the Warriors on Jan. 17 against the Ottawa Black Bears.

Turpin also went to Best and played for the Jr. Adanacs. He was selected 14th overall in the NLL draft by the San Diego Seals. He has yet to play a pro game as he heads into his senior year at Simon Fraser University where he also plays for its lacrosse team.

The Adanacs, which finished fifth in the 2024 WLA standings, had two selections in the first round of at-large selections.

The first was used to pluck runner David Charney from the Jr. Adanacs, who was one of that team’s captains last season. He scored 26 goals and added 22 assists in 14 regular season games and added another 11 during the Minto Cup tournament.

Charney currently attends the Rochester Institute of Technology.

The Adanacs’ second selection of the first round was defender Aiden Hindson from the New Westminster Jr. Salmonbellies. He’s also a fifth-round pick of. the NLL’s Calgary Roughnecks.

Other players selected by the Adanacs were:

  • Tristan Lomas in the third round
  • Adam Marcher and Jack Margetson in the fourth round
  • Ethan Self and Ayden Macdonald in the fifth round
