Two players from the Minto Cup champion Coquitlam Jr. Adanacs, and one from the senior team, have been selected in the first round of the National Lacrosse League entry draft.

Defender Remo Schenato was picked sixth overall by the Vancouver Warriors after the team acquired the selection from the Saskatchewan Rush as part of a trade for Brock Haley.

Another Jr. Adanacs defender, Robbie Turpin, went 14th overall to the San Diego Seals, while Sr. Adanacs defender and transition player Luca Antongiovanni was picked eighth overall by the Buffalo Bandits.

At 6’4” and 230 pounds, Schenato takes care of business in the defensive end of the floor but can also score points in transition. He scored 32 points in 36 games over the past two BC Junior A Lacrosse League seasons.

Turpin is another stay-at-home defender who had six assists in 18 regular season games for the Jr. Adanacs and added a goal in the team’s seven-game run toward the Minto Cup.

Antongiovanni, who also played soccer at the renowned Deerfield Academy when he was younger, is renowned for his athleticism on the lacrosse floor. He had two goals and added three assists in 13 games for the Sr. Adanacs last season.

Other locals who got the call in Sunday’s draft that was conducted at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre include:

  • goaltender Ashton Brown of the PoCo Saints, selected 52nd overall by the Halifax Thunderbirds
  • defender Jordy Neary, of the PoCo Saints, selected 69th overall by San Diego

A total of 86 players were selected over six rounds by the league's 14 teams.
