Get your dancing shoes out.
A group described as “Vancouver’s best dance band” will perform a free show at Coquitlam's Town Centre Park (1299 Pinetree Way) on Friday, Aug. 2.
Dr. Strangelove will be at the amphitheatre from 7 to 9 p.m. as part of the city's Summer Concert Series.
Presented by Anthem Properties, the six-piece ensemble will play hits from the 1950s to modern day and get the crowd on its feet — as it did for 14 years as The Roxy Cabaret’s house band.
Among the songs in its extensive repertoire are:
- “I Gotta Feeling” by Black Eyed Peas
- “Firework” by Katy Perry
- “Everybody” by Backstreet Boys
- “9 to 5” by Dolly Parton
- “Dancing Queen” by ABBA
Its two sets of 45-minute performances on Friday night follow the Big Easy Funk Ensemble, which played the park stage on July 19.
Next up in the music series are Sebastian Gaskin on Aug. 16 at Blue Mountain Park (975 King Albert Ave., Coquitlam) and Said the Whale on Sept. 6 at Town Centre Park with Coquitlam singer–songwriter — and Dr. Charles Best Secondary graduate — Etienne Siew opening at 6 p.m.
Meanwhile, food trucks will be on site for each performance:
- Aug. 2 = Tochi Desserts Ltd., Tornado Potato
- Aug. 16 = Camion Café, Bevees Ltd.
- Sept. 6 = Gary's Kettle Corn, Gordo's Concessions, Fijian Fusion
Attendees have the chance to win a gift basket from the City of Coquitlam by filling out a survey by Friday, Sept. 20. Visit the Summer Concert Series website for details.
