Letter: A seven-hour power outage? Port Moody should've been told

Residents were not only put at risk, but Port Moody Fire Hall #2 was forced to test the reliability of its standby diesel generator, this letter writer claims.

The Editor:

At 10 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6, the residents of the Glenayre neighbourhood of Port Moody got a rude shock when their electricity went off.

The unannounced outage lasted for seven hours while an electrical contractor replaced a wooden BC Hydro pole at the Clarke Road and Glenayre Drive intersection in Coquitlam.

Not only residents were inconvenienced and put at risk, but also the Port Moody Fire Hall #2 was forced to test the reliability of its standby diesel generator.

While Glenayre residents appreciate the need for preventative maintenance for the reliability of BC Hydro's service, we are upset that the community was not given advance notice of the lengthy planned outage.
