The City of Coquitlam is now accepting registrations for its city-wide garage sale and give away on Sept. 21 and 22, 2024.

If you spent the Labour Day long weekend cleaning up your home, the City of Coquitlam has a solution to get rid of your second-hand goods.

On Saturday, Sept. 21 and Sunday, Sept. 22, the municipality will run its fall city-wide garage sale and giveaway event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

During that weekend, Coquitlam residents can sell or offer for free their household items to keep the items out of the landfill. As well, shoppers can hunt for gently used treasures while contributing to the environment by cutting waste.

Single-family and duplex homeowners wanting to sell or give away their wares on one or both days can register online by Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 4 p.m.

And multi-family homeowners who have the permission from their property owner, property manager or strata council can also take part.

But for Coquitlam residents who don’t have approval, a fall swap and sale will be held on Sept. 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Centennial Pavilion. Apartment and townhouse owners have until Friday, Sept. 13 to register via coquitlam.ca/signmeup (Course ID 00167435) and rent a table for $30.

Alternatively, here’s where you can donate items:

Meanwhile, Coquitlam residents who receive collection from the city can request curbside pickup of up to four large items (e.g., furniture or mattresses) with the Large-item Pickup program by calling Waste Connections of Canada at 604-636-3521

Items can also be dropped off at the United Boulevard Recycling and Waste Centre (995 United Blvd), which has a large, full-service depot for recyclables (e.g., flexible plastic packaging, plastic bags, beverage containers, cardboard, books, textiles, batteries, expanded polystyrene, light fixtures, cooking oil, paint products, pesticides and gasoline, propane tanks and electronics).

In addition, eligible goods such as books, batteries, glass containers can be recycled at the city's recycling depot in Town Centre Park on Trevor Wingrove Way.

And Coquitlam residents can use the Waste Wizard search tool to enter whatever item they need to recycle, giveaway or dispose of and to find out where and how to dispose of it correctly.
