Labour Day is a time to celebrate all that workers have accomplished and reflect on where we still need to go.

Workers across the Tri-Cities are facing new and growing challenges, especially when it comes to fighting for fairer wages and rights.

With rent, mortgages, bills and food prices increasing and wages not matching the hike, workers can’t keep up.

This is happening all while the Liberal government, like the Conservatives before them, gives billions in handouts to rich corporations who are getting richer while leaving their workers with scraps.

In the face of growing corporate greed, sky-high inflation and cost of living, it’s so important for us to stand in solidarity with those of us fighting for the respect they deserve.

From rail workers and airline employees to nurses and personal support workers, everyone deserves respect, safe working conditions and fair wages and benefits.

It’s why I, along with my New Democrat colleagues, have fought to protect workers rights to strike, for 10 paid sick days and for higher wages — all while Justin Trudeau’s Liberals let workers down and Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives attack them.

This Labour Day — and every day — I have the back of workers in our community. I’ll keep fighting for higher wages, better working conditions and stronger rights for everyone in Port Moody–Coquitlam.
