You can host a birdhouse building workshop in Coquitlam with a Small Neighbourhood Grant.

Seed money to host a sporting game, showcase musical talents or run a workshop is now available for Coquitlam residents and groups.

Up to $500 is on the table through the Neighbourhood Small Grant program; applications will be accepted from Sept. 9 to Oct. 15, 2024.

Designed to bring people together, the grant program — offered by the Coquitlam Foundation, Vancouver Foundation and the Association of Neighbourhood Houses of B.C. — funds social gatherings, improvement projects and skills presentations.

The money is not available to businesses or registered organizations; however, residents and groups can use the cash to pay for products, services and honorariums for an event or activity that’s free to the community.

The project must be complete by Dec. 31, 2024.

Previous recipients have used the grants for:

  • street parties
  • painting sessions
  • strata barbecues
  • building gardens
  • constructing pump tracks
  • sharing multicultural stories
  • upcycling fashion
  • making tote bags

Port Coquitlam and Port Moody residents and groups can apply next spring.
