You can have a say in the way Coquitlam City Hall and the Coquitlam Public Library are run over the next two years.

Starting Tuesday, Sept. 3, the municipality will call for volunteers to help guide its civic services and programs in 2025 and 2026.

The deadline is Thursday, Sept. 24, at noon to apply online for an advisory committee or library board position.

The city is recruiting volunteers for seven advisory committees, which review proposals and materials from staff, hear from guest speakers and make recommendations to city council.

The seven committees are (in alphabetical order):

  • Accessibility and Inclusion
  • Community Safety
  • Culture Services
  • Economic Development
  • Multiculturalism
  • Sports and Recreation
  • Sustainability and Environment

Library board

Meanwhile, the library board will also have vacancies available in the new year to help steer the City Centre and Poirier branches, as well as the Library Link.

And residents wanting to be on the library board can learn more about the duties via an online information session on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 5:30 p.m. To register for the Zoom meeting, you can email [email protected].

Volunteer advisory committee and library board roles are open to residents outside of Coquitlam; however, volunteers who live in Coquitlam are preferred.

Potential candidates should have prior community involvement and skills to match a committee or library board position plus time availability to serve.

City employees cannot apply for a position.

After the closing date, candidates will be interviewed by city staff or the current library board members and librarians. Applicants will get a letter from the city in the fall to advise them of the appointment decisions, which are made by city council.
