Tri-Cities players lead Canada to semifinals at LAX worlds

Port Coquitlam’s Curtis Dickson and Coquitlam’s Ben McIntosh each scored a pair of goals to help lead Canada’s national lacrosse team to a 13-7 win over Australia in their last preliminary round game at the 2018 FIL Men’s Lacrosse World Championships, in Netanya, Israel.

McIntosh also added an assist and Coquitlam’s Wesley Berg contributed a goal and an assist.

The win was the fourth of the tournament for the Canadians, against one loss. That’s good enough to advance them directly into Thursday’s semifinal which will be played at 8 a.m. PT. Their opponent has yet to be determined.

In preliminary play, Canada defeated England (12-6), Scotland (22-3), Iroquois Nation (10-5) as well as Australia. Their only loss was to the United States, 11-10.

Dickson is the team’s leading scorer, with 13 goals and an assist. McIntosh has nine goals and two assists, while Berg has four goals and three assists. Ryland Rees, who plays for the PoCo Saints of the BC Junior A Lacrosse League, has a goal in five games.

The tournament’s championship final is scheduled for Saturday.
