Riverside Rapids fall at Tsumura Invitational tournament, will play for third place

The Riverside Rapids will play for third place at the Tsumura Invitational senior girls high school basketball tournament at the Langley Events Centre.

The Port Coquitlam school lost its semi-final game Friday against the top-ranked Seaquam Seahawks, 79-66.

The result was a reprise of the teams’ last meeting, at the final of the 2024 provincial championship, that Seaquam won 79-73.

In Friday’s rematch, Riverside conceded a trio of three pointers late in the first quarter that put them down 27-20 and never recovered.

The Rapids trailed 44-30 at halftime then the Seahawks expanded its advantage to 26 points in the third quarter.

Riverside outscored Seaquam 19-6 in the final frame, but it wasn’t enough.

Senior guard Jorja Hart scored 17 points for the Rapids while Henna Virk added 14.

Syra Toor was the top scorer for the Seahawks; her 23 points included seven triples.

Riverside will play the Argyle Pipers in the third place game, 3 p.m. at the LEC.

The championship between Seaquam and the Brookswood Bobcats, which beat Argyle 69-60 in their semi-final, goes at 4:45 p.m.
