Avery Sussex scored 33 points to lead the Riverside Rapids to a 81-65 win over Okanagan Mission in their semi-final game at the BC High School AAAA senior girls basketball championships, Friday at the Langley Events Centre.

Port Coquitlam’s Riverside Rapids will defend its BC AAAA senior girls basketball championship.

Senior guard Avery Sussex scored 33 points to lead the Rapids over Okanagan Mission 81-65 in Friday’s first semi-final at the Langley Events Centre.

Riverside will play the winner of Friday’s late semi-final between Seaquam and Yale.

It will be the Rapids third consecutive trip to the final.

Last year the team beat the Walnut Grove Gators to win its first championship. In 2022, it lost a crosstown heartbreaker to the Terry Fox Ravens.

In Friday’s win, Sussex did most of her damage in the first half, when she scored 25 points. The Rapids lead 29-18 after the first quarter and 48-37 at the half.

Jorja Hart chipped in 13 points for Riverside, as did Maliyah Mendoza.
