This weekend’s Trevor Wingrove Memorial lacrosse tournament comes with an extra helping of pathos, after the recent passing of Trevor’s father, Les. The longtime lacrosse volunteer and executive was a fixture at most of the games at the 34-year-old tournament that was renamed for his son — a renowned local player and senior manager with the city of Coquitlam — in 2011.
The tournament features 26 top teams from across the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island, the Interior, Alberta and the United States playing in three divisions. Gold medal games in two of those divisions will be played Sunday at 12 p.m., with the Bantams in the main rink at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex and the PeeWee’s playing in the rec rink. The midget final will be played at 2 p.m. in the main rink.
