Coquitlam’s Matteo Polisi scored three goals to lead the Simon Fraser University Clan to a 5-1 win over Saint Martin’s University in Great Northwest Athletic Conference men’s soccer, Thursday in Burnaby.
Polisi scored the Clan’s first goal in the 15th minute, off a setup from Coquitlam's Quinn Dawson. He then connected on two penalty kicks in the 36th and 75th minutes. He also set up one of teammate Connor Glennon’s two goals.
Polisi is now second in GNAC scoring, with 12 points — including five goals — in five games.
Port Coquitlam’s Aidan Bain made one save and faced seven shots in SFU’s net. He leads the conference with a 0.731 goals against average, which is also 28th best amongst all NCAA Div. II goalkeepers.
SFU travels to Seattle to play Seattle Pacific University on Saturday.
The women’s team was also victorious. defeating Saint Martin’s 2-0 earlier in the evening.
Giuliana Zaurrini scored both goals to lead the Clan to its first win of the season. Coquitlam’s Kiara Buono had two shots to raise her season’s total to 11.
SFU hits the road for its next four matches, beginning Saturday in Nampa, Idaho, against Northwest Nazarene University.
