The back-end blockade of Tri-City Predators goalie Nicole Grandinetti and Coquitlam defender Michelle Samaei helped Team Fraser Valley dump Great Vancouver 4-1 to claim the gold medal at the B.C. Cup Under-16 female hockey championships last weekend in 100 Mile House.
After opening with a shoddy 9-2 defeat to the same Greater Vancouver unit, Fraser Valley rallied to knock off the defending-champion Okanagan squad 7-5 and eliminate it from first-place contention.
Fraser Valley then shaved Team Kootenay 4-2 to advance to the championship game. Okanagan tripped Team Vancouver Island 4-1 to claim bronze.
