Coquitlam’s Dante Fabbro has a goal and an assist for Team Canada, which defeated the United States 3-0 on Tuesday to advance the quarter-finals of the IIHF World Hockey Championships in Slovakia.
Canada, which finished atop its group in pool play with six wins in seven games, will play Switzerland on Thursday.
Fabbro, a 20-year-old defenceman who joined the Nashville Predators on March 27 when he signed an NHL entry-level contract, is also +8 in six games. He missed the team’s game against France May 16 after he was hit in the face by the puck during a game last Monday against Slovakia. But he was in the lineup for the game against the U.S. and was credited with an assist on Jared McCann’s third period goal that made the score 3-0.
Fabbro also scored in Canada’s 8-0 win over Great Britain on May 12.
This is Fabbro’s sixth time representing Canada at international hockey tournaments. He was part of the junior team that won the gold medal at the 2018 World Junior Hockey Championships, as well as a silver at the 2017 competition. He was selected 17th overall by the Predators in the 2016 NHL entry draft.
