Coquitlam–Port Coquitlam Liberal MP Ron McKinnon speaks at Douglas College in Coquitlam on April 23, 2024.

The MP for Coquitlam–Port Coquitlam is calling on teens and young adults to join his Youth Advisory Council.

The deadline is Oct. 6, 2024, for young people — ages 16 to 22 — who live in the federal riding to apply for a spot at MP Ron McKinnon's table.

Successful candidates will not only learn about the political process, but they’ll also discuss national issues and get involved in the community.

Applicants are asked to fill out an online form to provide contact information and respond to the following questions:

  • describe three issues that you care about and why?
  • what is your community involvement (e.g., sports, arts, volunteering)?
  • how will you use your best skills to help the Council?

Eligible youth are asked to commit to attending one meeting a month to share ideas (McKinnon’s constituency office is located at 3278 Westwood St., Port Coquitlam).

Those who meet the criteria will be notified by the Thanksgiving long weekend.

Currently, the Liberal MP chairs the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security and the subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure of the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security.

To apply for a spot on the Youth Advisory Council, you can visit MP Ron McKinnon’s website.
