Happy Labour Day to everyone here in the Tri-Cities!

As we spend time with our loved ones during this long weekend, we should all take a moment to recognize Canada’s labour pioneers who fought for every worker's rights, and fair and safe working conditions.

Through their activism, today we have a strong measures that support our middle class and are the backbone of the Canadian economy.

Our Liberal government continues to make it a priority to support our workforce by ensuring paid sick days for federally regulated employees, maternity and paternity leave, and increased minimum wage for federal workers and Employment Insurance.

We recently passed important legislation, Bill C-58, our government’s signature anti-scab legislation that bans the use of replacement workers during contract disputes.

For our economy to thrive and, to continue to succeed, we must ensure that all workers can operate in a healthy, safe and supportive environment rooted in human rights.

I am proud of our Canadian workers and, on this holiday, I hope you are resting with loved ones as our beautiful summer comes to a close.

Happy Labour Day!
