Crunch challenge

Wake up early to cheer on the participants in the annual Coquitlam Crunch Challenge, a fundraiser for the Coquitlam Foundation’s Diversity Initiative Fund. There are four events: the Stair Master at 8 a.m.; the 8-km run at 8:55 a.m.; Make It or Break It at 8:55 a.m.; and Recreational at 10 a.m. Park north of Scott Creek Middle School. Donations are welcome, including for KidSport Tri-Cities. The Crunch is located off Guildford Way in Coquitlam.

Shred it

Take your unwanted documents and papers in for shredding at a fundraiser hosted by the Rotary Club of Port Moody. BEST Shredding will be at Port Moody City Hall (100 Newport Dr.) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. No plastics, photos, CDs or metals are allowed. The shred is by donation. The event is sponsored by the city and the Tri-City News.

Repair Café

Take your broken household wares to the Public Works Yard (1737 Broadway St., Port Coquitlam) between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. for city staff and Rotary volunteers to fix them and keep them out of the landfill. Donations are welcome.

Batter up!

Support Coquitlam Little League as it battles regional teams in its Senior Wood Bat Tournament at Blue Mountain Park (975 King Albert Ave., Coquitlam) all day today and June 2.

Writers talk

Jokers Canada

Patrick Maliha, Marito Lopez and Ed Hill — the latter, a Pinetree Secondary graduate — appear in Jokers Canada’s latest Comedy Classic edition for the Tri-Cities. The stand-up comedians will be at the Inlet Theatre (100 Newport Dr., Port Moody) at 7 p.m.

Dance to the music of Front Page, which plays at the Coquitlam branch of the Royal Canadian Legion (1025 Ridgeway Ave.) from 7 to 11 p.m.

Sport your Coquitlam Adanacs jersey as the lacrosse team battles the Burnaby Lakers at 7 p.m. at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex (633 Poirier St., Coquitlam).

Salsa dancing

Grab your friends for the Salsa Dance Zone’s Salsa and Latin dance night at the Port Coquitlam branch of the Royal Canadian Legion (2675 Shaughnessy St.) where instructors Alberto Gonzalez and Teresa Szefler will lead a beginners dance class from 8 to 9 p.m. before opening up the dance floor until midnight. Admission to the 19+ event is $15 at the door.
