Rocks and gems

“Let’s Rock Again” is the title of the annual rock and gem show taking place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Kyle Centre in Port Moody (125 Kyle St.). The Port Moody Rock and Gem Club event features lapidary and geology displays and sales. Admission is by donation.

Repair Café

Volunteers with Coquitlam’s Repair Café will mark its one-year anniversary with a celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Pinetree Community Centre (1260 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam, rooms 5 and 6). Attendees can bring a broken small household item to be fixed. Meanwhile, Port Coquitlam will also have its Repair Café open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Public Works Yard (1737 Broadway St., Port Coquitlam) where staff and volunteers will be on hand to glue, stitch and hammer broken items.

Salmon Day

Join the Watershed Watch Salmon Society, Resilient Waters, kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem) First Nation and Zachary Sherker, a PhD candidate of UBC’s Pacific Salmon Ecology and Conservation Lab, for Salmon Day at  ƛ̓éxətəm (formerly Colony Farm) Regional Park in Coquitlam. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Presentations are at noon.

Kids clothes

Exchange your child’s clothing — or give it away — at a meet at the City Centre branch of the Coquitlam Public Library (1169 Pinetree Way). Hosted by the Community Advisory Group, the event runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Library party

Join the Port Moody Public Library staff as they mark 80 years of the library inside Port Moody City Hall (100 Newport Dr.) from 1 to 3 p.m. No registration is required.

Writers talk

Hear from author Debra Purdy Kong in a talk called How to Sustain Characters in a Series and Keep the Spark Alive, at 1:30 p.m. at the Terry Fox Library inside the Port Coquitlam Community Centre (2150 Wilson Ave.). The presentation by the Tri-Cities Wordsmiths is free — in person and via Zoom.

Artist talk

Allison Chow will be at PoMoArts (2425 St. Johns St., Port Moody) at 2 p.m. for an artist talk. She will read from My Mother’s Daughter and talk about the inspiration for Echoes of Home. Copies of the book will be available for purchase.

Legion dance

Hear live music from the band Front Page at the Royal Canadian Legion branch 263 in Coquitlam (1025 Ridgeway Ave.) from 7 to 10 p.m.

Salsa night

Join the Salsa Dance Zone as it hosts a dance class at 8 p.m., followed by a dance party until midnight, at the Royal Canadian Legion branch 133 in Port Coquitlam (2675 Shaughnessy St.). The event is for ages 19 and up. Admission is $15 at the door.
