MP BBQ

Join Port Moody–Coquitlam NDP MP Bonita Zarrillo and Burnaby MP Peter Julian at Blue Mountain Park (975 King Albert Ave., Coquitlam) for a summer barbecue from noon to 2 p.m. The event is free; however, non-perishable donations are accepted for the SHARE food bank. The event is in partnership with the Coquitlam Firefighters Charitable Society.

Mid-Autumn Moon

Celebrate the mid-autumn moon with free performances, activities and demonstrations at Mackin House (1116 Brunette Ave., Coquitlam). The Coquitlam Heritage Society hosts the event from noon to 3 p.m., next to Place des Arts in Maillardville. A lion dance is at 12:15 p.m.

New ECC Season

Vancouver party band Famous Players will launch the 28th season of concerts and gallery shows at Coquitlam’s Evergreen Cultural Centre (1205 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam) at 7 p.m. The venue’s party starts at 3:30 p.m. with a family-friendly arts workshop. At 4:30 p.m., artist Cindy Mochizuki will lead a tour of her new exhibit at the Art Gallery at Evergreen called stories best told at twilight. And at 6 p.m., there'll be speeches and music from The Uppatones while, at 7 p.m, the festivities move into the Studio Theatre where the Famous Players will be performing. There is no cost to attend; however, registration is required for the dance.

Hockey Action

Grab a seat at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex (633 Poirier St., Coquitlam) for an exhibition home game between the Coquitlam Express and Surrey. The puck drops at 7 p.m.

Legion Music

Dance to the tunes from O’Toole’s at the Royal Canadian Legion branch in Coquitlam (1025 Ridgeway Ave.). The show is from 7 to 11 p.m.

Salsa Night

Join Alberto Gonzalez and Teresa Szefler of the Salsa Dance Zone to try out some Salsa, bachata, merengue and cha-cha-cha steps in a beginners’ class at 8 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion (2675 Shaughnessy St., Port Coquitlam). Admission is $15 at the door and no partner is needed. The adult-only dance party is from 9 p.m. to midnight.
