There may not be life after death, but a Port Coquitlam bakery suggests there is cake.

The first British Columbia location for the 900 franchised Crumbl bakeries across the United States, Alberta, Ontario and Saskatchewan is featuring an Afterlife cake in partnership with Warner Bros. Pictures to celebrate the new Beetlejuice Beetlejuice movie that opens in theatres on Friday, Sept. 6.

The companies are also offering a chance to win a trip for four to Hollywood to see first-hand the sets and sound stages where director Tim Burton’s sequel to his cult classic, Beetlejuice, was filmed.

The Afterlife cake is a two-tiered chocolate confection layered with a swirl of vanilla and dark chocolate cream cheese frostings, a dusting of dark cocoa, sprinkles and a Beetlejuice Beetlejuice topper.

The cake is available only until Sept. 7.

Crumbl’s Port Coquitlam location opened May 31 and has been a favoured destination to satisfy sweet tooth cravings ever since, with lineups of fans seeking its distinctive pink boxes regularly snaking along the sidewalk at the Clock Tower Centre.

The company was originally started in 2017 in Idaho by a couple of cookie-loving cousins, Jason McGowan and Sawyer Hemsley, who wanted to create the best chocolate chip cookie recipe in the world.

A year later they’d expanded their repertoire to a weekly rotation of four new flavours unveiled to great anticipation over its social media channels every Saturday.

“It’s almost like Christmas ever week when a new cookie drops,” Hemsley told the trade website, bakingbusiness.com, in an interview.

To enter the giveaway for the Hollywood trip, follow Crumbl’s Instagram page, like the post announcing the contest and tag three friends who would accompany you should you win. Entries close Sept. 7 at 11:59 MST and the contest is open to anyone 18 years of age and older. The winner will be randomly selected and announced Sept. 9.
