Up to 30 cm of snow fell in the Tri-Cities Wednesday and more is expected Thursday afternoon.

Schools are closed for the second straight day as the Tri-Cities braces for another round of wintry weather.

School District 43 announced the closure early Thursday morning on its web page and social media channels. More snow and possibly freezing rain is expected to move into the region this afternoon.

Wednesday, the school district took some heat on social media after its website crashed from the sheer volume of families checking whether schools would be closed as a storm that ultimately dropped up to 30 cm of snow on Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody began to take hold.

In-person classes at the Coquitlam campus of Douglas College have also been cancelled for the day and Simon Fraser University is closed. Archbishop Carney Regional Secondary School in Port Coquitlam is closed as well.

Check back here through the day as we track additional closures and cancellations that may be announced as another winter wallop moves in.

Snow clearing crews in Coquitlam have started to work on local — priority three — routes as higher priority commuter and feeder routes have been mostly cleared.

But, the city says, "progress has been slow due to the depth of snow, and in many cases on local roads, lack of space to store it."

As a result, many feeder routes and local roads are narrow because of parked cars and snow piled along the shoulders.

Crews are also starting to clear catch basins in anticipation of melting snow when temperatures rise and rain moves in.

The recreation complex in Port Moody is open today with most of its programs operating. Registered participants will be emailed if there's any changes and updates to drop-in programs can be found here.
