Photos: Rollover crash in Port Coquitlam sends two to hospital

Coquitlam RCMP closed off the area of Kingsway and Wilson avenues for several hours to investigate the crash that involved a semi-truck.

Police are investigating the events that led to a motor vehicle crash in Port Coquitlam this morning (Aug. 12).

RCMP confirm with the Tri-City News that two people were taken to hospital from the scene of the collision with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident took place around 9:15 a.m. at the intersection of Kingsway and Wilson avenues — located northeast of the Port Coquitlam Community Centre and across from the Port Coquitlam West Coast Express station.

The crash involved a four-door sedan and a semi-truck, Mounties spokesperson Cpl. Alexa Hodgins said.

Witnesses told the Tri-City News the semi had rolled over and hit a tree.

The eastbound Wilson Avenue streetlight was taken down as a result of the incident, and both vehicles were facing that direction when first responders arrived.

Traffic has since reopened at the intersection after police closed it for several hours and transit commutes have resumed normal operations, per TransLink.

Hodgins said the investigation is still ongoing to "determine the circumstances surrounding the collision."
