Port Coquitlam residents who want to see diversity, equity and inclusion in the community can have a voice next year.
The deadline is Monday, Nov. 18, for candidates to apply for a spot on the city’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Roundtable.
Started in 2020, the volunteer board seeks to create a welcoming environment for PoCo residents and visitors.
“The City of Port Coquitlam is committed to continuing to build an inclusive city where everyone feels valued, heard and represented,” said Mayor Brad West in a news release.
“Our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Roundtable brings together voices from across our community to ensure that our policies and programs actively remove barriers and create opportunities for all.”
Successful applicants will sit for the next term — from January 2025 to December 2026 — with quarterly meetings on Monday nights (there are no meetings in July and August).
Roundtable members will reflect PoCo’s diverse population by including:
- Indigenous people
- people of colour
- 2SLGBTQI+ and gender-diverse individuals
- people with disabilities
- neurodivergent individuals
- immigrants and newcomers
- individuals living in poverty
- seniors
- women
- youth
- people with lived intersectionality
EDI Roundtable candidates who have experience working with teams, community groups, boards or organizations are especially welcome.
The new members will be announced in January 2025.
