The wife of former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau and mother of current PM Justin Trudeau will speak at an event to be held at the Terry Fox Theatre on Nov. 19.

The prime minister's mom and former PM's wife will be in Port Coquitlam next month talking about the ups and downs of her life.

An Evening with Margaret Trudeau: Changing My Mind will be held at the Terry Fox Theatre on Monday, Nov. 19 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Trudeau, in addition to marrying Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau in 1971 at the age of 22 and being the mother of current PM Justin Trudeau, has become a mental-health issues advocate. The twice-divorced mother of five has battled bi-polar disorder and suffered the loss of her son Michel Trudeau who died at the age of 23 in an avalanche in the B.C. Kootenays in 1998.

The Vancouver-born daughter of a former Liberal cabinet minister James Sinclair has written four books and sits on the executive advisory board of the UBC Mental Health Institute as a community advocate. Trudeau was an honorary president of WaterAid, a Canadian charity that helps communities in developing countries build sustainable water-supply and sanitation services.

"She brings her formidable life story to the stage in her quest to help others, sharing her message of resilience with the goal of helping to inspire others and to erase the stigma surrounding mental health issues," said a press release

The event is being put on by Coquitlam Continuing Education and the Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce. Net proceeds will go to the Kwikwetlem First Nations Health and Wellness Facility Fund.

Tickets start at $79 for chamber members and are available through Eventbrite, Contact Stephanie Rennie, Communications Manager, for promo code. All attendees will receive a copy of Trudeau's best seller Changing My Mind.
