It’s time to get Fido his annual licence.
And if you renew your dog licence in the next few weeks in any of the Tri-Cities, you can also save a few bucks for treats.
In Coquitlam, a licence for spayed or neutered dogs will cost $30 before the deadline date, but $47 afterwards. Licences for non-spayed or non-neutered dogs cost $60, but go up to $77 after Feb. 1.
Licences for seeing eye or hearing assistance dogs are free with proof of their capability.
The money collected from dog licences helps fund Coquitlam’s animal shelter as well as animal control and other regulatory services in the city associated with pet ownership.
All dog licences in Coquitlam expired on Dec. 31 and the fine for not licensing a dog is at least $150.
Licence fees for spayed or neutered dogs in Port Moody are discounted to $47 before Feb. 1 but increase to $53 after that. The discounted fee for an unfixed dog is $77, then increases to $82 after the deadline.
Seniors 65 and older can get their spayed or neutered dog licensed for $30 by visiting the licensing counter on the second floor at city hall (100 Newport Dr.) with their photo ID.
Port Coquitlam discounts dog licences by $15 if they’re purchased before Feb. 3.
Prior to the deadline, a licence for a spayed and neutered dog six months and older costs $32 while the fee for unspayed or unneutered dogs is $80.
But until Jan. 31, the city is running a contest to earn one of three free dog licences, as well as some doggy swag, if residents post a photo of their furry friend through Port Coquitlam’s social media channels using the hashtag #pocodoggo and tagging @cityofpoco on Instagram or X, or by uploading a photo of your dog in the comments of any post related to the #pocodoggo photo contest on the city’s Facebook page. There will be three winners.
