A gofundme page has been started to help a Tsawwassen First Nation member who lost her home to a fire last Sunday evening.
Loretta Williams (known as “LAW” by her friends and family) was displaced by a house fire in the early evening of Sunday, June 16. The fire rendered her house largely unlivable and she has since had to find other living arrangements.
“As many of her friends know, Loretta has always been there for people in need,” said Dawn Williams who created the gofundmepage. “She gives so much support to so many people with so little. Loretta recently retired and we would like to pull together as a community to give to her so that she can move forward from this tragedy.”
The damage from the fire destroyed her storage sheds, one of which was a brand new cedar weaving work shed, and the back of her home. That home will need to be demolished and rebuilt.
Loretta is an amazing artist, weaving wool and cedar into works of art. She is very connected to her culture and teaches others wherever she travels, sharing her knowledge all over the Lower Mainland and the United States. She is also a newly elected Legislator of the Tsawwassen First Nation government.
As of Friday morning, more than $1,400 had already been raised.
