The Victoria Grizzlies defeated the Coquitlam Express 3-1 Saturday to take a 2-0 lead in their BC Hockey League best-of-seven playoff series.

The Coquitlam Express will have to hope the home ice trend continues if the team is to get back into its BC Hockey League playoff series against the Victoria Grizzlies.

Victoria defeated Coquitlam 3-1 Saturday at the Q Centre to take a 2-0 lead in their first round series.

In the six meetings between the teams this season, the home side has won every time.

Andrej Kovacevic gave the Express a 1-0 lead 4:09 into the first period Saturday.

But 44 seconds later, the Grizzlies tied it, then added two more goals in the third period.

Andrew Ness made 38 saves in Coquitlam’s net, while his teammates fired 40 shots at Victoria goalie Kyle Kelsey.

The series shifts to the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex on Tuesday, 7 p.m., for game three with game four the next night, also at 7 p.m.
