The city of Coquitlam is opening Glen Pine and Dogwood Pavilions in a move to reintroduce registered fitness and leisure programs for adults over 50.

The two 50-plus facilities open Tuesday, Sept. 8, also paving the way for the restart of specialty clubs and group meet ups at the two facilities.

Similar to the city’s community centres and swimming pools, access will require pre-registration and the city has introduced a number of social distancing and sanitization measures to stem the transmission of COVID-19.

Glen Pine Pavilion, located at 1200 Glen Pine Court, will offer such activities as line dancing, painting and drawing, Spanish and Qigong, a form of Chinese meditation combining guided movements and controlled breathing. Some of the groups set to start meeting again include Crafters, Quilters, Art Group and Leisure Group.

Meanwhile, at Dogwood Pavilion, located at 1655 Winslow Avenue, line dancing, painting and Spanish will be offered alongside photography and guitar classes. At least 13 groups will start up their activities again, including Stroke Recovery, Drama, Wii, Fantasy Carving, Life Writing and South Asian Group.

In a press release, the city of Coquitlam said more actives may be offered over time but that drop-in spaces and on-site food services will remain closed.
