A giant government-run cannabis store will open on PoCo's north side.
Last Tuesday, after a public hearing, city council unanimously endorsed the rezoning bid by BC Liquor Distribution Branch — the only wholesale distributor of non-medical cannabis in the province and the operator of BC Cannabis Stores — to open a large outlet near Home Depot, in the Dominion Triangle.
Its proposal was tied up in city bureaucracy for several months as the uses of the 6,000-sq. ft. store were determined. In the end, city council restricted the retail sale and display area to about 2,658 sq. ft., with the remaining space for administration, training and storage.
Meanwhile, city council at its Nov. 12 meeting also gave two bylaw readings to allow for the production of goods made with cannabis extracts — cannabis edibles, extracts and topicals — in the city.
