Staff at a Port Coquitlam poultry processor were forced out on Tuesday afternoon after a tank full of ammonia sprung a leak.
PoCo fire chief Nick Delmonico said Lilydale employees were evacuated from their Kingsway Avenue premises for about three hours while firefighters set up command posts and escorted a chemical specialist inside to replace a valve and ventilate the building.
No injuries were reported.
Last September, the Alberta government laid charges against Lilydale Inc. after an ammonia leak at its Calgary plant two years prior. The province said the Edmonton-based company didn't make a timely report about the incident to Alberta Environment.
Lilydale has had a plant in PoCo since 1970.
