This will be a relatively quiet year for Pigeon Park, the Tri-City band made up of Centennial and Heritage Woods secondary graduates.
The five musicians will be heading into the studio next month to record five or six songs they wrote together for their second EP.
But, other than playing a few gigs, they'll mostly be on home turf.
It's not such a bad thing, says guitarist Kevin Okabe from Coquitlam.
Since they formed four years ago, Pigeon Park has toured the country twice. On their first trip, they stopped in Windsor, Ont., long enough to record their first album, The Sun, containing 12 original tunes.
The blues- and groove-infused rock band also crossed Canada in 2011 and, last year, unveiled six tracks on a self-titled EP, played festivals around the province and was a finalist in 99.3 The Fox Seeds contest.
Their new EP "is a pretty good representation of the band so far and how we've changed over the years," Okabe said of his co-workers Nick Weber (vocals), Artur Leppert (bass) and Hunter Elliott (drummer) of Coquitlam, and Logan Pacholok (guitar/vocals) of Port Moody.
And after the EP comes out?
Okabe said they'll perform a couple of spring dates - The Venue on March 28 and outside the Vancouver Art Gallery on April 20, to name two - and will take a much-needed rest before their next big run: A year in the UK and Europe for 2014.
