CROSSROADS CASH
Port Moody's Crossroads Hospice saw a number of recent donations during the Christmas holidays including $21,362 from the New Westminster Police, money swung in from an annual golf tournament in memory of police sergeant Keith Logan; $3,000 in "found" money on the floors and in machines at Hard Rock Casino Vancouver; and $1,046 from Westwood Plateau Golf and Country Club's 2013 League Finale Shotgun Tournament.
BLOOD DRIVE
Port Moody Fire Chief Remo Faedo got a needle in the arm at last week's Sirens For Life. The Canadian Blood Services drive at PoMo city hall saw local emergency service and city workers roll up their sleeves. In total, 88 units of blood was donated for the drive that also included volunteers from Port Moody secondary school.
FRASER CHAIR
A former MLA will chair the Fraser Basin Council, which includes the Tri-Cities. Colin Hansen was named this week as the council's fifth chair of its board of directors, until March 31, 2014.Hansen succeeds Charles Jago, the former president of the University of Northern B.C., who was appointed to the top job in 2006.Established in 1997, the Fraser Basin Council is a charitable non-profit organization aimed at advancing sustainability in the Fraser Basin."The Fraser Basin Council's track record of helping to solve some of BC's tough sustainability issues is commendable," Hansen said in a news release. "I look forward to working with many of BC's private and public leaders in enhancing the social well-being of British Columbians."
