A new multi-use path along St. Johns Street in Port Moody has been recognized as one of the best improvements to civic infrastructure in British Columbia by the HUB cycling advocacy group.

The path, that was completed in 2024 and runs on the south side of St. Johns from Albert to Moody streets, is one of two awarded HUB’s infrastructure improvement award at its 12th annual bike awards. The other wen to the District of North Vancouver for its active transportation improvements along the Mount Seymour Parkway.

Winners were celebrated at a ceremony Saturday, March 8, at MEC in Vancouver.

The new path on St. Johns is the first phase of two that will eventually run all the way east to Ioco Road. Along with upgrades to sidewalks that were already in place, the project includes new trees, better signage and a separated bike lane between Kyle and Grant streets.

The second phase is currently in its conceptual design stage.

In a news release, Port Moody Mayor Meghan Lahti said the new path that was funded in partnership with TransLink, ICBC and the province, enhances “safety, accessibility, and sustainability in our community.”

She added the project “serves as an inspiration for other communities looking to create vibrant, connected spaces for everyone.”
