Singing, dancing and cultural performances are on the program for Saturday's 10th annual Korean Heritage Day Festival at Blue Mountain Park in Coquitlam.
And for this milestone anniversary, organizers will showcase three top young classical musicians who qualified earlier this year in the first-ever KCHS 2011 International Musical Festival, sponsored by the Korean Cultural Heritage Society and Tom Lee Music.
Music festival committee member Hyeajung Park, conductor of the Korean Youth Symphony Orchestra, said in a press release that the aim of the contest is "to provide a musical forum for the students and teachers to demonstrate their musical achievements... while fostering professional growth and networking opportunities for the participants."
The one-day outdoor festival runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the corner of Porter Street and King Albert Avenue and draws thousands of visitors from around Metro Vancouver.
The Aug. 6 party includes Korean food, a clay-making contest for kids, games and a special show from a group from Korea. As well, organizers will celebrate the Asian country's recent acceptance as host of the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang.
Admission is free and a shuttle will be available to the festival site from the Lougheed Town Centre SkyTrain station.
