A Coquitlam man is missing in an area popular with hikers on the top of Westwood Plateau along a network of trails that are making a search for him extremely difficult.
Ali Safar Naderi was reported missing just before 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23 when his vehicle was found in the 2100 block of Diamond Crescent, Coquitlam.
Police and family members are concerned for his wellbeing.
Naderi is known to hike alone in that area almost daily. However, a concerned citizen called police after observing that Naderi’s vehicle had been parked many hours longer than usual.
“This person called us and it was absolutely the right thing to do,” said Coquitlam RCMP spokesperson Michael McLaughlin.
Because the area has so many trails, some of which lead to Eagle Mountain, it’s not known where Maderi was headed, and without pin pointing the area for his hike, it’s difficult to mount a search, McLaughlin said.
However, police have been in contact with Coquitlam Search and Rescue and have been making inquiries.
“We have not found anyone close enough to Mr. Maderi, to say what his intentions were,” McLaughlin told The Tri-City News.
The hope is by publicizing the information, people can be on the lookout.
Coquitlam RCMP investigators have searched Naderi’s vehicle and apartment for clues and have spoken to Naderi’s extended family and neighbours. There is nothing to explain what happened to Naderi and there is significant concern for his well-being, McLaughlin further stated in a press release.
Naderi is described as:
• A 52-year-old Persian man,
• With brown eyes,
• Black, salt and pepper hair of medium length,
•178 cm (5’10) and 80 kg (176 lbs),
• May be wearing hiking gear.
