Winter is coming and Coquitlam is seeking volunteers to help out navigating winter weather challenges.
Seniors and those with mobility or accessibility concerns can be experiencing a difficult and isolating time — and when it snows and it's time to clear sidewalks, they could use a helping hand.
As an official snow angel, interested Coquitlam residents will be matched with neighbours — those aged 65 and older or who have mobility challenges — who are within walking distance to assist in clearing snow from their city adjacent sidewalks within ten hours of the end of a snowfall.
Volunteers must reside in Coquitlam and be over 16 years old or have adult supervision on site.
Snow angels are needed throughout Coquitlam, especially in higher elevation neighbourhoods including Austin Heights, Como Lake, Eagle Ridge, Laurentian Belaire, Harbour Village and Westwood Plateau, a press release notes.
Training, shovels, ice cleats, reflective vests, scarves, mittens and toques will be provided.
For more information or to volunteer as a snow angel, tou can visit the city's website.
