The Riverside Rapids have advanced to the semifinals at the Tsumura Invitational senior girls high school basketball tournament.
Riverside beat the GW Graham Grizzlies from Chilliwack, 69-63, in Thursday’s quarter-final at the Langley Events Centre.
Senior guard Jorja Hart scored 38 points for the Rapids, including 12 of the 15 points Riverside scored in the third quarter to wrest away the Grizzlies’ halftime 38-34 lead by a single point. She also hit seven of eight free throws and netted a trio of thee-pointers.
The Rapids increased its advantage in the fourth period by outscoring G.W. Graham 19-16.
Riverside will play the winner of Thursday’s game between Holy Cross and Seaquam Friday evening at 6:15 p.m. If Seaquam advances, it would be a rematch of last March's AAAA provincial final that the Seahawks won, 79-73.
The Dr. Charles Best Blue Devils lost its second consecutive game in the tournament’s Super 16 bracket.
It fell 48-38 to St. Michael’s University School Thursday after dropping its opening game Wednesday, 72-49 to Brookswood.
In the Select 16 bracket, the Centennial Centaurs bounced back from its opening day loss to defeat Britannia 74-59 while the Heritage Woods Kodiaks lost its second game, 49-39 to Pacific Christian. The Kodiaks were defeated 66-39 by Mark R. Isfeld in their opening round game Wednesday.
