Port Moody resident Nicole Neuman, President and CEO of Synergy Engineering Ltd., has been named one of Canada's 100 most powerful women by WXN for 2024.

Nicole Neuman is at the forefront of Canada's engineering sector, leading project teams in B.C. and around the world.

For that, the Port Moody resident was recently named one of Canada's 100 most powerful women by the Women's Executive Network (WXN) in recognizing her contributions that have left a lasting impact on her industry.

Neuman, a professional engineer (P.Eng.) with 25 years of experience in materials handling and Wound Rotor Induction Motor Resistive Control systems, was one of 15 winners of the Compass Rose Entrepreneurs category.

The award, WXN explained, recognizes women that "own and operate thriving businesses."

Neuman is the president and CEO of Synergy Engineering Ltd. — based in Coquitlam at 135 Glacier St.

Taking the big chair in January 2020, Neuman has helped grow Synergy's offerings world-wide with a focus on innovation, people and technology.

According to Synergy's website, projects have included overseeing power distribution at Taseko Mines in McLeese Lake, B.C., Buenavista del Cobre Quebalix IV in Mexico and Grasberg Mine Block Cave in Indonesia.

Synergy also caters to hydro sites, oil and gas facilities, marine ports, and commercial and residential areas.

"[Neuman] volunteers with various engineering societies, conferences, and mentorship programs, and authors and presents papers to further influence the next successful leaders and promote technological advancement," reads Neuman's WXN profile.

Neuman, a Simon Fraser University (SFU) graduate, was also named a 2020 RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Award winner for the innovation category.

"Bold women are all around us, and with these prestigious awards, we celebrate the boldest of the bold who redefine what's possible through their power, passion and purpose," said WXN owner and CEO Sherri Stevens in a news release.

"This year's winners inspire women who follow in their footsteps and entire communities to dream bigger, aim higher and push beyond boundaries. Their impact creates a ripple effect that lifts future generations up and sets new standards for bold achievement."

Meanwhile, Hayley Woodin Hastings, editor-in-chief of Business in Vancouver (BIV), Western Investor and The Orca — all sister publications of the Tri-City News — was also named to WXN's most powerful women list.

She won in the Amex Emerging Leaders category, which recognizes women aged 30 to 40 on the rise to be successful leaders with their organizations and "have a proven passion for learning and innovation."

Neuman and Hastings were selected by WXN's Global Alliance for Inclusive Leadership (GAIL), who looked at women across private, public and nonprofit sectors for the 2024 list

Both are scheduled to be honoured Wednesday, Nov. 27 during an awards gala in Toronto.
