Wanted: Kid cadets for next Junior Mountie camp in Coquitlam

Applications are now open for children ages 10 to 14 to be part of the Coquitlam RCMP’s Junior Mountie Police Academy.

Tri-City kids wanting to learn more about policing can sign up for a week-long camp this summer.

Applications are now open for children ages 10 to 14 to be part of the Coquitlam RCMP’s Junior Mountie Police Academy, which returns to the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex in Coquitlam for morning sessions from July 21 to 25, 2025.

There is no cost to register; a morning snack and uniform will be provided.

During the camp, young cadets and corporals will get hands-on experience and join law enforcement activities from Mounties serving in Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Belcarra, Anmore and the  kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem) First Nation.

This includes:

  • marching and drills
  • fitness exercises
  • police science studies like fingerprinting
  • personal safety, including physical, mental and online safety
  • police dog demonstrations

On the last day of the camp, family and friends of the graduates can attend the Red Serge ceremony.

"We are very excited to offer the Junior Mountie Police Academy to our communities’ youth once again,” said Cpl. Justin Bauer in a news release. “Each year we build upon the previous success to ensure our camp is informative, engaging and most of all fun."

He added, "The Junior Mountie Police Academy gives our youth the tools to build self-confidence, strengthen positive relationships and also to have fun.”

The deadline for parents or guardian to apply is Thursday, April 17, 2025; candidates will be notified in early May.
